WARSAW — A husband and wife were arrested on warrants Wednesday, July 18, stemming from an alleged shoplifting incident in May.

Scott A. Coverstone, 55, 13720 N. Prairie St., Warsaw, is charged with theft, a class A misdemeanor, enhanced to a level 6 felony. Kathleen Mary Coverstone, 61, 13720 N. Prairie St., Warsaw, is charged with theft, a class A misdeamnor enhanced to a level 6 felony and criminal trespass, a class A misdemeanor. The couple were charged earlier this month but booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Wednesday.
According to police, a Walmart employee observed the couple enter the Warsaw Walmart on May 4, 2018. The employee told police that both suspects had previously been in trouble as a result of their actions at the store. Kathleen Coverstone, according to police, had prior convictions related to the store for criminal trespass and theft. Scott Coverstone had been convicted of conversion related to actions in the store.
The Walmart employee told police that on May 4, she observed the couple begin to scan certain items at the self-checkout, but noticed Scott Coverstone place a pack of cigarettes in his shorts pocket.
The couple scanned some of the items in their cart and left the store having failed to scan and pay for the cigarettes, as well as bananas, blueberries, coffee and flowers. The value of the items stolen was $37.03.
The couple were positively identified by police using surveillance video, the report said.
