WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested for allegedly battering an inmate at the Kosciusko County Jail.
Brian Lee Kern Jr., 22, 1117 Briar Ridge Circle, Warsaw, is charged with battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony.
On July 30, a Kosciusko County corrections officer was informed about a possible fight at KCJ. Upon reviewing surveillance footage, the officer saw Kern, an inmate, get into an altercation with another jail inmate.
According to court documents, the inmate said he was choked to the point of passing out and was punched in the face during the altercation with Kern. The inmate was diagnosed with a closed head injury, facial and scalp contusions, and a subconjunctival hemorrhage, which is when a blood vessel in an eye breaks.
Kern was booked into KCJ for this charge on Nov. 17.
