WARSAW — A Syracuse man is facing charges for battering a police officer while being booked in the Kosciusko County Jail.
Anthony Castillo, 25, 4075 E. 1050N, Syracuse, is charged with battery resulting in bodily injury to a public safety official, a level 5 felony; and resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor.
On Nov. 12, two KCJ officers were booking Castillo into the jail when Castillo began walking away from the booking counter.
According to court documents, Castillo disregarded the officers’ commands to stop walking. When one of the officers attempted to stop Castillo by grabbing his right arm, the officer fell, and Castillo hit the officer on the back of his head with a cellphone.
Castillo continued disregarding officers’ verbal commands and was placed in a restraint chair.
As a result of the confrontation, the officer who grabbed Castillo’s right arm sustained an abrasion above his right elbow and a knot on the right side of his head.
A warrant for Castillo’s arrest on these charges was issued on Nov. 29.
